About the ruin of a farmhouse

The Masia de Can Calau is the result of centuries of constructive evolution. A building that began with a first body from the 13th-14th century, which grew throughout the 16th and 17th centuries with the construction of a trull, and which was consolidated between the 18th and 19th centuries with a volume of three levels: a semi-underground part, the ground floor and the first floor.

The project intervenes in this semi-underground space to convert it into a place intended for health and leisure activities. The proposal enhances the existing structure with a respectful and precise restoration, which preserves the character and memory of the farmhouse. The remains of the old trull, the well and the cistern are preserved, which are incorporated into the new use as they were found.

A new porch extends the existing roof to protect the ruin and forms the main access to the center. A welcoming space open to the outside and in constant dialogue with the natural landscape of the surroundings.

In the west courtyard of the house, a space with a vegetable pergola, access stairs and water points for cooling off is planned. All these elements are linked through a landscape intervention that combines vegetation and natural materials, reinforcing the relationship of the farmhouse with its surroundings.
